Boy, can we fill up our computers with fonts. Anyone that
does a lot of designing on your computer seems to feel we can never have
enough, right? So many fonts are similar to each other, that we often have to
go through and clean them out.
When
you're looking for a specific font style to use on your project, you find a
whole new world of fonts you have missed or never seen before. So that one font download now turns into 20
font downloads.
Well I'm maybe going to add to that collection. I have created a list of my favorite fonts,
and I'm sure I've found some of these because of other people's lists of their
favorite fonts...so the list travels.
Most of these fonts can be found on http://www.dafont.com,
which is one of my favorite places to find fonts.
One question I have seen asked a lot in Silhouette forums
is, "How do I install them in the Silhouette program?". There isn't
any need to completely install into Silhouette Studio. If you install the font
on your computer, it will show up in Silhouette. If you have your program
already open when you install the font, you will need to close everything, and
re-open the program to see that font.
Now let's do some font organization...
If
you download a lot of fonts...haha, you want to be careful if you have a computer
crash. You could do a backup of all your fonts in your Windows Font Folder, but
that could be a problem later. So what I
suggest, is you keep all your fonts that you download in a folder named
Downloaded Fonts in your Documents Folder.
That way a backup is easy and you know those are fonts you use often.
You can install from there into windows.
There is another program I highly recommend. When we
download fonts, there are often glyphs included. What are glyphs? They are alternate letter
styles or even graphic designs included with the fonts. In windows you can view these by opening your
character map. That to me is a pain in
the butt. So I downloaded a program, BabelMap, it is FREE. I love working with it. To learn more about it and download it, visit
their website.
It is especially nice if you have purchased the Samantha Font. It is also nice when viewing a ding bat font
without having to type each letter in.
Well, I hope you found some value in today's post and let me
know if you have any questions.
